Accessorial Charges Reference

The fees that turn a clean quote into a surprise invoice. Search common LTL accessorials — liftgate, residential, limited access, detention, and more — to see what triggers each and a typical cost range.

What accessorials are — and why they surprise shippers

The base freight rate covers a standard dock-to-dock move: a forklift or dock on both ends, business hours, no special handling. Anything past that is an accessorial — a separate line on the invoice for a separate service. A liftgate because there was no dock, a residential fee because the address was a home, detention because the driver waited. None of it is on the quote unless it was disclosed up front, which is exactly why the invoice can land higher than expected.

The ranges here are ballpark figures for education, not quotes. Every carrier publishes its own accessorial tariff — check theirs for the numbers that will actually bill.
