What cycle counting is
Cycle counting replaces the disruptive annual physical inventory with a continuous trickle: a handful of locations counted every working day, so the whole building gets covered over the year without ever stopping operations. Done well, it catches errors while they're small and keeps your system quantities trustworthy year-round.
Why count by class
Not every SKU needs the same scrutiny. High-value A items get counted often — monthly is common — because an error there distorts your inventory value and risks a costly stockout. B items get a middle cadence, and low-value C items might be counted just once or twice a year. Tying frequency to the ABC class puts your limited counting hours where they buy the most accuracy. This planner does that math: it grades the list, applies your per-class frequency, and rolls it up into a daily workload you can staff.
Counts per day = total annual counts ÷ count days per year. With minutes per count and hours per counter, it also estimates the counters you need on the floor each day.
