What a packing slip is for
A packing slip is the shipper’s own document — it rides inside or on the shipment and tells the receiver exactly what’s in the boxes: the items, the quantities, and the reference numbers to check against their order. It’s not a carrier document, so you control it end to end. For small parcel it’s the slip you drop in the box; for LTL freight it’s the manifest the receiver counts against the pallets.
The packing slip answers “did everything I ordered actually arrive?” — which is why it lists contents and counts, not freight class or rates.
Parcel or freight — one slip
The same slip works for both. When you prefill from a saved shipment, it reads whether the shipment was built as parcel or freight and labels the packages accordingly — boxes for parcel, handling units or pallets for freight — but the document is the same clean contents list either way. Edit any line before you print.
What it isn’t
A packing slip is not a shipping label and not a bill of lading. It carries no barcode and no carrier routing — those come from the carrier’s system.
